Occupational therapy at Easterseals Joliet Region supports children in developing the skills needed for daily living, learning, and play. Our pediatric occupational therapists work with children to improve fine motor skills, hand–eye coordination, self-care abilities, sensory processing, and overall independence. Whether it’s learning to dress, write, feed themselves, or manage sensory challenges, we create personalized, engaging activities that build confidence and success in everyday routines. We also partner closely with families, offering strategies and resources to support skill development at home and beyond.
Sensory Processing
Sensory processing refers to how the brain receives, organizes, and responds to information from the senses—such as sight, sound, touch, taste, smell, movement, and body awareness. Some children may have difficulty processing this information, which can affect their ability to focus, play, or complete daily tasks. At Easterseals Joliet Region, our occupational therapists use individualized sensory activities—like swinging, bouncing, textured play, or calming techniques—to help children regulate their responses and feel more comfortable and confident in their environments.
Listening Program
Our Listening Program is a specialized, evidence-based approach that uses carefully selected and modified music to support brain function and improve communication between the ears and brain. Delivered through headphones in a calm setting, the program can help enhance attention, listening skills, sensory processing, and emotional regulation. It’s often used alongside occupational therapy activities to promote overall development and make everyday tasks easier and more enjoyable for children.
